Particularly as we age, many of us may experience skin problems such as an overly red complexion, fine wrinkles, irregular pigmentation or large pores. These conditions are now easily treatable. Photo-Facial treatments using IPL enable us to treat these skin imperfections safely, easily and effectively.

The Alternatives - Previous treatments for these conditions included dermabrasion, chemical peels, and laser skin resurfacing. With dermabrasion, layers of skin are actually sanded away. Chemical peels use an acid solution to burn away layers of skin. Even the lasers, which give surgeons infinitely more control, still exfoliate the protective outer layer of skin which often means bandages and a lengthy recovery period.

Photofacials - Also referred to as "Fotofacials", were designed to combat the effects of aging and damaged skin in a softer, gentler way. The procedure uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to reduce the redness and flushing of Rosacea by up to 80 or 90 percent. It can be used to treat the full face, neck, chest and even the hands. The technology has been used to perform millions of treatments worldwide and is known to be very safe. The treatment is especially effective for those patients with red, flushed faces, sun-damaged skin, hyperpigmentation, or enlarged pores. The treatment is very precise and can be used to just target damaged tissues leaving the surrounding tissue intact.

Our system can gently deliver precise amounts of light energy through your skin's surface. The energy is delivered at specific settings for each treatment to maximize your results. Treatments are spaced out at three week intervals.

The light energy stimulates the production of collagen. As the new collagen forms, it softens the appearance of aging skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced. The redness associated with Rosacea can be dramatically reduced.

The Procedure - Typically, patients will need between 3 - 5 treatments, each taking just 15 to 30 minutes. You may opt for a topical anesthetic since the sensation is similar to the snap of a rubber band on the skin. After treatment, the pain is minimal to non-existent although some bruising or redness may occur.

After only one treatment, your skin will have a more even tone with a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will fade. Pore sizes will shrink. Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually decrease in size. These improvements will steadily increase with each treatment. Patients with Rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness with every treatment.
